FOUNDER'S NOTE
Normalization has gained wide acceptance and as goal for institutions of the mentally retarded should strive to achieve, but many organizations have been shown to have difficulty achieving the goal. Theories developed from the organisational contingency perspectives suggest that organization's with bureaucratic structures will have particular difficulty accomplishing their nonroutine tasks associated with normalization. Our major purpose was to test the usefulness of such theories for the evaluation of mental retardation facilities by ascertaining whether a less bureaucratic organization for the mentally retarded would achieve greater success than a more bureaucratic organization.
Special education (also known as special-needs education, aided education, exceptional education, special ed. or SPED) is the practice of education for students in a way that addresses their individual differences and needs. Ideally, this process involves the individually planned and systematically monitoring arrangement of teaching procedures, adapted equipment and materials, and accessible settings.
The Institute for Community Inclusion supports the rights of children with disabilities to participate in all aspects of the community. As practitioners and teachers, we form partnerships with individuals, families, and communities. Together we advocate for personal choice, self-determination, and social and economic justice.
Sometimes parents do not want others to know their children's condition so they do not register them. Instead, they send their special needs children to normal schools where these children struggle to cope with their studies. Special needs individuals are able to work if they are given proper guidance and opportunities. In the past, people used to have on pity them and they did not like it. We have to move on and empower them so that they will not be marginalised by society
